What is it?
Acne is a skin disorder which causes spots.
The spots usually appear on the face, but they can also break out on the neck, shoulders, chest, back and upper arms.
Here's how it occurs...
Sebaceous glands (glands in the skin near the hair root) create an oil called sebum. Sebum is released through tiny openings in the skin's surface called pores, to lubricate and protect the skin.
However, when dead skin cells block the pores the oil can get trapped, creating a breeding ground for bacteria. These bacteria cause the infection that produces an inflamed spot or swelling, filled with fluid.
