Skin cleansing tips

We all need to take good care of our skin, but it's especially important for acne sufferers.

These skin cleansing tips won't treat acne on their own, but they should help your acne treatment work to its full potential and help to keep your skin clean and healthy.

  • Try not to squeeze or pick spots - this can spread the bacteria below the skin surface, causing more spots to appear later on. If you do break the head of a spot, make sure you wash your hands and face afterwards.

  • Don't over-wash or scrub your skin - this can make the skin dry and sore - causing the skin to produce more of the oil that makes it prone to spots.

  • Wash your face twice a day - using a mild soap or cleansing wash, such as Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. Also be careful to clean off any make-up before bed.

  • Use a moisturiser regularly - even if your skin isn't always dry, a good non-oily moisturiser can help. Pick a product that's 'non-comedogenic' - which means 'non-spot forming', such as Cetaphil moisturiser.
